Welcome To Wellness By B
About Me
Hello and welcome to Wellness by B! I'm Bianca, also known as "B.” As a registered nurse turned health and wellness coach, my journey into this field was sparked during the challenges of COVID. Fueled by a newfound passion and through self-guided research, I experienced personal transformations and developed my understanding of food and fitness. Having navigated my own struggles with food and fitness, I understand firsthand how important it is to fuel your body wisely.
Why I Started My Own Business
Friends often encouraged me to turn my passion into a business, mentioning my motivation and discipline as inspiring. Wellness by B is more than a name; it's a lifestyle. My approach revolves around helping you not only feel but also look your absolute best. I understand the importance of balance, and I live by the 80/20 rule—embracing a healthy lifestyle while savoring the joys of life. Let me take you through a little journey of my life.
Like many of you, I used to think cardio was the end-all, be-all. Hours in the gym were spent on the elliptical and engaging in what I believed was weight lifting. I found myself doing endless exercises, thinking more was better. Little did I know how mistaken I was.
My Gym Journey
My fitness journey started during my teenage years when I obtained a gym membership at 17. Despite my initial unfamiliarity, my background in high school and college club sports kept me active. In the early gym days, I immersed myself in endless exercises and excessive cardio, going 6-7 times per week for several years. It wasn't until the COVID era that I delved deeper into fitness, gaining insights into effective training. I transitioned from exhaustive workouts to a more balanced approach, focusing on quality over quantity. As my understanding deepened, I shifted to a sustainable routine, lifting weights four to five times per week, optimizing my time and significantly contributing to achieving my fitness goals.
This phase evolved into a love for heavy lifting and achieving personal records, guided by a dedicated trainer. During this period, I accomplished a 285lb deadlift, a 135lb bench press, and a 225lb squat. The heavy lifting and PR achievements led me to my current phase, where I use my knowledge to create personalized workout programs, extending my passion to help others, especially the nurses I work with.
My Nutrition Journey
On the nutritional front, my journey started in my early 20s, marked by the initial struggles of not consuming enough food. However, amid the challenges posed by COVID, I undertook a transformative process. During this time, I explored the precise details of nutrition, learning about tracking macros, and personally navigating myself through a reverse diet. Through strategic increases in both protein intake and overall calories, I focused on rebuilding my metabolism. Starting around 1500 calories, I reversed my way up to about 2500 calories. This period of self-discovery enabled me to cultivate a healthier relationship with food and deepen my understanding of the vital importance of nourishing my body. I devotedly tracked macros for two years. In this phase, while I was eating plenty of food, it wasn't always the "right" food. In order for things to fit into my macros, I ended up consuming a lot of sugar-free items, artificial ingredients, and items that would upset my stomach. I developed a lot of gut issues during this phase, but I didn't realize the cause at that time. As time went on, I felt ready to transition out of my macros tracking stage. Although scared to move away from tracking everything I was consuming (I am a very routine-oriented person), I gained the courage and stopped tracking in February of 2022. The initial stages were hard, trying to gauge how much or how often I should be eating without such a defined structure as I had with the macros. Although I picked up tracking macros here and there since 2022, I currently am not tracking. While I do believe tracking macros for a short amount of time is helpful to learn about how much and how many grams of each macronutrient you're consuming, it is not something that should last forever.
The next phase was vegan, but this only lasted a short period after developing extremely low B12 and a slew of gut issues. This phase was prompted by a Netflix series, but it only lasted about two months. This brings me to my current phase, which focuses on eating more whole-food and non-processed foods. I stopped consuming artificial ingredients and paid special attention to ingredient labels. I healed my gut from the inside out. While I do still enjoy a brownie sundae on a Saturday night, I am all about eating in moderation. I live an 80/20 lifestyle, both with nutrition and lifestyle habits. Perfection is not the goal, consistency is.
What I Practice Today
I established Wellness by B with the goal of helping others achieve their best selves. As a nurse, my initial passion for helping people transformed into assisting individuals seeking to feel and look their best. Wellness by B Best focuses on small changes evolving into lifestyle habits, promoting an 80/20 lifestyle. Today, I've moved beyond meticulously tracking macros, equipped with the knowledge to intuitively eat and listen to my body's needs. Currently, my diet consists primarily of whole, non-processed foods, emphasizing ample protein in each meal. However, I indulge in sweet treats as well (just not all the time).
In terms of fitness, I strength train four to five times per week and achieve 10-12k steps daily for cardio. While taking a break from heavy lifting, I still incorporate strength training and center my cardio routine around walking, finding balance and avoiding burnout.
With my knowledge and enthusiasm, I'm eager to support you on your journey to optimal well-being. Whether you seek personalized guidance or embark on a transformative journey, let's work together to create a healthier, more nourished version of yourself. Get ready to be your best and achieve the well-being you deserve!
